Honda Earns High Honors for Safety from Independent Testing Agency
Honda backs up its slogan, “Safety for Everyone,” with recent safety scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2026 Honda HR-V and Honda Passport earned “Top Safety Pick+” (TSP+) designation, while two others, the 2026 Honda Civic Hatchback and Honda Accord were named “Top Safety Picks” (TSP).
These are helpful indicators that these Hondas are among the safest vehicles available. Not only did they get IIHS safety endorsement, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave them top 5-Star Safety Ratings.
The IIHS has been championing safety innovations for many years, steadily raising standards for getting its top safety ratings. IIHS notes that last year 48 vehicles qualified for IIHS by this point in the year, and this year, in spite of tougher rules, 63 vehicles have qualified, Honda four models, included.
What makes for a TSP+ or TSP rating? Here are some of the top-line rating requirements:
- Acceptable or good in pedestrian front crash prevention test (both).
- Acceptable or good in updated vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention evaluation (TSP+).
- Qualifying front crash prevention systems (both)
- Crash avoidance systems to better prevent pedestrian and other vehicle crashes (TSP+).
- Good in small overlap front and side tests (both).
- Acceptable or Good on headlights (both).
How did the four Honda vehicles do on the IIHS tests?
- The 2026 Honda Passport earned “Good” or green scores on all evaluations.
- The 2026 Honda HR-V earned its TSP+ with five “Good” and three “Acceptable” or yellow scores.
- The 2026 Honda Accord earned a TSP with “Good” ratings on Crashworthiness tests, “Good” headlights and “Acceptable” Front Crash Prevention: Pedestrian, and “Good” ratings for its Seat Belt and Child Restraint tests.
- The 2026 Honda Civic Hatchback earned TSP designation with “Good” on Crashworthiness tests, “Good” headlights, and “Acceptable” vehicle-to-vehicle and pedestrian Front Crash Prevention.
All Hondas are equipped with the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies, including Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).
And as Honda keeps proving, it’s not all about the money. The Civic, Accord and HR-V all start at a price under $30,000! They’re also very stylish, comfortable and fun. We’d love to demonstrate why these Hondas are the complete package.
